Great swim in The Serpentine in London’s Hyde Park yesterday (1/6/2011). And it was all for a good cause too. Cancer Research invited me down to meet up with Gadget Show host Jason Bradbury and Speedo/Swim for Tri coach Dan Bullock.
As announced last week, Jason will be attempting to swim The Irish Sea as part of a relay team with other celebs like Richard Branson and Ronan Keating in order to raise £1 million for Cancer Research.
Now this is a heck of a challenge even for a strong swimmer (the Irish Channel is very rough, cold and full of nasty things like jellyfish). But Jason is a self-confessed novice when it comes to distance swimming which makes the challenge even more impressive.
Not only that, but he’s volunteered to swim 8 miles of the 56 miles (possibly upto 70 miles if they don’t get the tides right).
So the session in The Serpentine was all about brushing up on Jason’s technique so he can last the distance. Thankfully he’s got a great coach in Dan Bullock who works as a Speedo advisory coach as well as running his own swim school for triathletes, SwimForTri.com.
To find out more about the challenge and how you could be part of it with Jason go to The Swim website. You can watch an interview with Jason talking to Goggleblog’s Chris Price below with the beautiful setting of The Serpentine in the background.
